Using Join, medical images can be shared in real time with physicians at a hospital located three hours away by car.
Allm Inc. (Headquarters in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Takaaki Otani), a subsidiary of DeNA Co., Ltd., has conducted a proof-of-concept pilot for remote medical image sharing with a view toward telemedicine in Cambodia, in accordance with the partnership agreement signed with international medical NGO Japan Heart (NPO) on March 27, 2025.
Bridging the Healthcare Gap in Cambodia
Cambodia faces a significant shortage of physicians, and its healthcare standards remain considerably lower than those of Japan. Furthermore, an underdeveloped healthcare system and high medical costs force many patients to forgo treatment altogether. In response to these challenges, Japan Heart has been conducting medical support activities in Cambodia since 2009.
In this initiative, mobile medical examinations were conducted at Kampong Trabek Hospital, a public hospital in Prey Veng Province partnered with Japan Heart, using Allm Inc.’s telemedicine support solution, Join Mobile Clinic (JMC), including portable ultrasound equipment, X-ray imaging devices, and electrocardiography systems and other portable devices.
For diagnoses such as atheroma, local physicians evaluated the ultrasound images produced by the ultrasound device included in JMC as superior in quality to those generated by the hospital’s existing ultrasound equipment, confirming the device’s clinical advantage in the field.
In addition, medical images captured via Join, a communication platform for healthcare professionals, were transmitted in real time to physicians at the Japan Heart Medical Center located approximately three hours away by car, successfully demonstrating remote consultation by specialists.
Looking ahead, Allm Inc. aims to leverage Join Mobile Clinic (JMC) to help build a sustainable operational model that empowers local healthcare professionals to deliver continuous care, while supporting access to high-quality medical services for patients in underserved communities.
Guided by Japan Heart’s mission of “delivering healthcare to medically-isolated areas” and Allm’s vision of “realizing equitable access to healthcare for all,” the two organizations will continue working together to build a foundation for community-centered medical support that contributes to the future of healthcare in the region.
Training local physicians in Cambodia on how to use the medical equipment.
